Clare Jefferis was a foundation scholar at the Royal College of Music and studied with Paul Edmund-Davies, Jaime Martin and Stuart McIlwham. In 2005 she graduated with 1st class honors and continued her studies on the orchestral postgraduate course. A multi-award-winning instrumentalist, Clare has won the Ian Flemming award (Musician's Benevolent Fund), Solti Foundation Award, AHRB Scholarship for postgraduate study, John Lewis plc Award (RCM) and NYOS Staffa Award.

Upon Graduation Clare secured a contract with the BBC Philharmonic orchestra (2nd flute), performing with them in UK, Japan and Europe. A former member of the National Youth Orchestra, she is now a busy freelancer and works with many orchestras including the BBC Phil, Philharmonia, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Hallé, Welsh Chamber Orchestra, Opera North and English National Opera. She has performed several times as part of BBC Proms, given live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, and played for numerous recording sessions.

As a soloist, Clare has performed concertos with Imperial College String Orchestra and Pelly Concert Orchetra and was a prizewinner in the Malcolm Arnold Concerto Competition. She founded the Calderon Duo (flute and guitar) with Tom McLauchlan in 2004 and the duo were awarded a Live Music Now! Youth Music Fellowship. They have given over 100 recitals and workshops as part of the scheme as well as recitals at the National Gallery, St. James Garlickhythe, Royal College of Music and 8th and 9th International Guitar Festivals at the Bolivar Hall of the Embassy of Venezuela. Clare has worked with many other leading chamber groups including the New London Chamber Ensemble, performing at the Leeds International Concert Season, Purcell Room, The Warehouse (Park Lane Group) and Vox Laci Festival in Slovenia. She is also a member of the dynamic flute duo Flight, performing at events around the world, including an appearance at Vogue Caftan (Fashion Week) in Marrakech.

Commercially, Clare has recorded and perfomed with artists such as Katherine Jenkins, Lesley Garrett, Michael Ball, G4 and Katie Melua. She has played at Buckingham Palace for HRH Prince of Wales 60th Birthday celebrations and performed at themed orchestral concerts including the Doctor Who and Blue Peter BBC Prom and a Disney Concert in Abu Dhabi.

Clare is passionate about teaching and deputises at the RCM, Trinity and GSMD junior departments. She tutors regularly on flute days and residential courses and has worked for Flutewise, Hong Kong Flute Academy and taught at the Flute Kitchen summer school in Harrogate for six years.

Clare is currently touring the UK with Cameron Mackintosh’s ‘Oliver!’.
